Remember When

Remember when new shoes could make you run faster?  Remember when a mom's kiss was all it took to make a boo-boo better?  Remember when the sound of the ice cream truck had you racing outside with as much change as you could carry?  Remember when going to bed was a let down because it meant you had to sleep? I miss that.  Who says ignorance isn't bliss?

As I enter the dreaded middle age, my remembrances are less exciting.  Remember when gas was under a dollar?  Remember when I didn't care if I left the lights on?  Remember when I could walk across the floor of my house barefoot and not get Legos embedded in the bottom of them?

Life is all about the moments we remember.  We are the sum of all of our beliefs.  I would not be who I am today if my life hadn't started out with the absolute conviction that new shoes made me run faster.  I hope we all have those moments and realize that we can only get where we are going by travelling through them.

  1. It's amazing how time can make us wiser. I remember when I had my life strategically planned. I would graduate by 22, be married by 25, a surgeon by 29 and kids by 30. None of it happened.

But...I also remember, although more recent, when I began to notice how beautiful a spontaneous, unregimented life can be.

  2. Time really does fly as we travel though our lives. The times we remember as a child were that of innocence, fun, adventure, and memories. Every year goes by faster and faster. I remember when my son was a little boy riding his bicycle and his electric car for hours. I remember sitting in the rocking chair reading stories to him. It seems like just yesterday even though he is now 24 years old and a grown young man. It seems like yesterday was a blink of my eye. Life really is about the moments we remember.

  3. Yes we all have our memories and moments of plans that we may not have reached. As long as we continue to strive and set goals to reach, I believe we remain hopeful. The memories can keep you humble and let you know how far you have come. Also they can let you know how much farther you have to go.

  5. Whenever I use the phrase "remember when" I feel so old! lol. I do I have a lot of good memories of my younger days. Time is the one thing you can never get back but the memories last forever.

  7. I always find myself saying remember when gas was this price, even this price. It blows my mind how much higher gas is now. I remember thinking there is no way I can pay two dollars a gallon and now were looking at four dollars. Crazyness
